SHOROC commissioned Thompson Tregear Pty Ltd to undertake
a regional sportsgrounds analysis in 2005. This was in response
to the desire of the four member Councils to work more strategically
in planning for the sustainable development and management
of sportsgrounds within the region. The Final Report was
presented to the SHOROC Executive at their meeting on 24
August 2006 and has been referred to member Councils for
their information.
The SHOROC Executive acknowledges the important role of
the Manly Warringah Pittwater (MWP) Sporting Union within
the region, particularly in relation to the sportsgrounds
allocation process. The Sporting Union Executive was consulted
in the development of the Report and the SHOROC Executive
has also held informal discussions to consider the principles
of the Tregear recommendations.
The next meeting of the SHOROC Executive and MWP Sporting
Union Executive members will be scheduled in November 2006.
SHOROC Councils, Clubs NSW and Northern Beaches Health
Promotion are working together to increase the awareness
amongst young people and their parents about their responsibilities
for safe partying.
The No Regrets Safe
Party Tips booklet was launched on behalf of the
SHOROC Executive by the Mayor of Pittwater, Clr Alex McTaggart,
at the Pittwater Youth Forum on 10 November 2005 and will
be distributed to school leavers and young people throughout
the region.
Rather than discouraging young people having fun, Councils
are promoting strategies for teenagers and parents to create
safer environments for young people to celebrate.
The booklet reinforces the work of the NSW Police and Education
providers in presenting the key messages relating to safe
partying.
